CHILDREN &HIV TREATMENTS
- If a new born baby is infected with HIV, immediately Highly Active Antiretroviral Theraphy(HAART) is recomended.
- When HIV is diagonised in older children HAART is postponded till CD4 percentage drops or symptomps of Opportunistic infections or HIV disease appears.
- Only 3 antiretrovirals(ARVs) are available in India.
- The same ARVs can be given to the child in tablet/capsule form when the child grows old.
- Coct of pediatric HAART can range from Rs.500-1000 per month
